The University of Maryland's Department of Computer Science hosted its annual Graduate Visit Day on Friday, March 15, 2024, drawing approximately 60 prospective Ph.D. students to the esteemed Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Engineering. The event provided a pivotal platform for aspiring graduate students to interact with faculty members, network with current students, and foster connections with their peers, providing a comprehensive overview of the academic and research opportunities.

The day commenced with welcoming remarks from the Department Chair, Matthias Zwicker, and the Associate Chair for Graduate Education, Ramani Duraiswamiemphasizing the department's unwavering dedication to cultivating an innovative and supportive environment for its students.

Subsequently, attendees engaged in a series of activities, including faculty meetings, tours of cutting-edge research laboratories, a panel discussion led by graduate students covering academic and daily life experiences and a campus tour showcasing the university's vibrant community and abundant resources. The day concluded with a networking dinner, allowing prospective students to mingle with faculty, current students and their peers in an informal setting.

The Department of Computer Science is renowned for its dynamic and inclusive atmosphere, bolstered by over 60 faculty members researching a broad spectrum of computer science areas. With over 400 graduate students, the department is a hub of intellectual activity and collaboration.

Its proximity to federal agencies such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Institute of Health, the Department of Defense, the National Security Agency and many others fosters a unique environment for research partnerships and projects, further enhancing its students' educational and professional opportunities.
