In this talk, I will discuss my vision for the future of the CS department. We are a strong department that does many things well, but we should recognize our strengths and weaknesses and find ways to improve. As we move into the Iribe Center, we must maintain our existing, excellent research programs even as we build strength in strategic areas. We must find ways to continue to improve undergraduate education, which has been under pressure due to rapid expansion. We must improve our interactions across campus, as computing is pervading a broad range of disciplines. And we must continue to expand our outreach efforts, especially to alumni, to demonstrate our contributions to society at large. Ultimately, I believe we can firmly establish the department as the nexus of computing education and scholarship on campus, in the state of Maryland, and in the DC area. After outlining my vision, I will discuss several challenges facing the department and some strategies we might use to address them. I will also talk about my approach to administration and my current research program.
