Aravind Srinivasan named Distinguished Alumnus of IIT, Madras

Professor Aravind Srinivasan (CS, UMIACS, and AMSC) has been recognized as a 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Awardee of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. This award was established in 1993 to recognize myriad accomplishments of IIT Madras' alumni. Srinivasan, who earned his B.Tech from IIT Madras in 1989, is one of twelve distinguished alumni who have been recognized for this honor this year. He will receive the award in April of this year.

He is a leading Theoretical Computer Scientist, and one of the world’s experts in randomized algorithms. Congratulations for a truly well-deserved award!”

In 2015, Srinivasan was named as an ACM Fellow. He is a fellow of AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), and he holds three patents.  He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on the Mathematical Foundations of Computing, and he is the Editor-in-Chief of the ACM Transactions on Algorithms (TALG).

Srinivasan does research in the area of randomized algorithms, networking, social networks, and combinatorial optimization. He works on the growing confluence of algorithms, networks, and randomness, in fields including the social Web, learning, public health, biology, and energy. He has published more than 100 papers in these areas, in journals including Nature, Journal of the ACM, IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, and the SIAM Journal on Computing.
