The 17th annual Maryland Day will occur this Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event, a "campus-wide celebration of innovation, creativity and academic excellence," will feature a bevy of over 400 interesting, fun, and compelling events from various colleges, departments, clubs, and organizations at the University. The Computer Science department and related organizations are planning to run some of their own events during the celebration!

Here's a quick rundown of what you can expect to see Saturday:

  • CompSciConnect Showcase (10 a.m. – 1 p.m., CSI 1121) – Students in the Computer Science Connect program for girls in grades 6-9 will be giving lessons in a variety of computer science topics. The students have prepared stations in cryptology, robotics, and Python, among others!
  • Discover What CS Students Can Build (10 a.m. – 1 p.m., CSI 1122) – Apps, video games, and all sorts of neat things created by Computer Science undergraduate and graduate students at UMD will be on exhibition at this must-see event!
  • Explore Computer Science (10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., CSI 1115) – Prospective students can meet with a panel of Computer Science staff and students to learn and ask questions about studying CS at UMD.
  • Hacking Demonstration (hourly from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., KEB Rotunda) – UMD's Cybersecurity Club will demonstrate cutting-edge techniques used by computer hackers to compromise many different types of systems. Learn how to protect yourself from these dangers and more!
  • Whom to Marry, How to Cook, and Where to Buy Gas (11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., CSS 1115) – Located in the Computer and Space Sciences Building, this presentation will focus on the application of computer science—"one algorithm at a time"—to common problems faced daily. It's sure to give you food for thought!

As you can see, there's going to be a lot of cool stuff going on this Saturday. So come out, get some ice cream, stop by one (or two, or three, or four, or five...) of our presentations and say hi! It's going to be a fantastic day and, along with everyone else here at the University, we can't wait to see you.
